R. Kikuo Johnson’s work first gained notice in 2005 with the publication of his debut graphic novel, Night Fisher. Today, his award-winning drawings regularly appear in books, advertisements, periodicals, and animation, but he may be best known for his covers of the New Yorker Magazine. Born on Maui in 1981 and trained at the Rhode Island School of Design, Johnson divides his time drawing in Brooklyn, teaching at his alma mater in Rhode Island, and playing the ukulele with his family in Hawaii.
